·         Stays on topic. Doesn’t go off on tangents/unrelated subject.

·         “Correct” grammar- usually standard English

·         Mechanically correct

·         Clear purpose/ thesis statement

·         Clear audience

·         Tone- appropriate to your purpose and your audience
